Southern author Sean Dietrich pens beautifully moving blogs about his family’s journey through caregiving

Sometimes I run across things that are so profound I want to share them with others. I’ve been enjoying daily blog posts by Sean Dietrich for a couple of years now. But this series of blog posts by Mr. Dietrich is so appropriate for the focus of this website and podcast that I want to make sure you all have access to them. I’ve personally saved this series of his recent blogs that aptly describe the joys and sorrows of caregiving. In fact, many of his thoughts mirrored the way I felt while caring for my parents in their final months, weeks, and days. It’s just that his way of saying it soothes the weary heart.

According to Mr. Dietrich’s writings, he and his wife were care partners for his mother-in-law for quite a while and these particular posts capture the family’s journey toward end of life, hospice care, farewells, and the act of laying their loved one to rest. But wise man that he is, Mr. Dietrich continued on and addressed the aftermath of caregiving, including the fog and fatigue that catch all of us caregivers unawares.

Even though I cannot link to his archives, I am placing the titles of these special blog posts by Mr. Dietrich here for those of you who are in the throes of caregiving now and are desperate for ideas about how to support your loved one, (or how to support the one you love who is the caregiver), when you can barely put one foot in front of the other each day. This list of posts is also for those of you who know your time as a caregiver is approaching. These posts will help prepare you for the emotional and physical stress that accompanies caring for someone you love all the while encouraging you to help your loved one live and find joy in each new day. I think that is the most important message in this collection of posts… finding the joy each day while also remembering all the joys of days now passed.

You can find these 23 blogs under the Archive tab on Mr. Dietrich’s website at www.seandietrich.com. The dates and titles are here so you can easily find these special posts in his archives. I encourage you to read them in the order they were published to get the full picture of this special time.

And I hope you will follow his cues and make notes of those special memories you have with your beloved family members.
